The Religious State of the 918 Research Symposium

  • The Symposium is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 26. It will be virtual, with poster presentations posted in advance and other sessions presented via Zoom.
  • It is coordinated by the Tulsa Community College Honors Program and funded by Oklahoma Humanities and the TCC Foundation.
  • Undergraduate students from Tulsa-area (broadly interpreted, now that it's virtual) colleges and universities are invited to submit proposals for papers, posters, and panels. Any topic related to religion. (Topics with a Tulsa or Oklahoma connection are especially encouraged, but not required.) I sent the call for papers earlier, but I'm attaching it here as well.
  • Featured speakers will be Dr. Eric Reitan from OSU and Dr. Lisa Barnett from Phillips Seminary.
  •

Tentative agenda:

All day: Pre-recorded poster presentations and welcome video available for viewing (posted on the RS918 web page hosted by the Tulsa Community College Library)

1:00-2:15 p.m.: Opening session with keynote speaker Dr. Eric Reitan (via Zoom): "Is Religious Diversity a Threat to Faith?"

2:30-3:30 p.m.: Student presentations, Round 1 (via Zoom)

3:30-4:30 p.m.: Plenary session with guest speaker Dr. Lisa Barnett (via Zoom): "Peyote and the Native American Church in Oklahoma"

4:30-5:00 p.m.: Wrap-up session. Make yourself a cup of coffee or tea and join us for an informal chat about the topics of the day.
